Why hire a copywriter?

There are a few reasons you might want to hire a copywriter to work on your marketing content:

What sort of stuff do you write?

Why a freelance copywriter?

Unless you’re an existing client, I generally don’t work on a project for less than $1000.

Can I see samples of your writing?

Yes, when you contact me for a quote, I am happy to show you relevant examples of similar copywriting projects. I am mindful of my clients’ privacy so choose not to show their work in public on my website.

What’s the copywriting process?

Abraham Lincoln said “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I’ll spend the first four sharpening the axe.”

The same holds true with copywriting. Most time is spent planning, thinking, and researching the product or service, its unique features, the competition, and the target audience.

When we start working together I’ll ask you lots of questions. Then I’ll go do research, write down ideas and rough drafts, and more than likely get back to you with more questions throughout the process. Together we’ll develop and tweak the copy until it’s the best it can be.

If for any reason you’re not happy with the finished product, I’ll work with you to make revisions until you’re completely satisfied.

What do you need from me to do the work?

I need as much information as you can give. There’s no such thing as “too much information” when it comes to briefing a copywriter about your business needs.

I want to know everything that’s been written before, everything your customer and clients think and say about you and your business, and what makes you different.

If you have written research, I want to see it, even if it’s not directly about your products or services, or even about your business. If you have existing marketing materials, I need to see them.

Most importantly, I want to hear you talk about your business. That’s why phone calls or meetings are important in the copywriting process. During a conversation you’ll reveal a lot of information both directly and indirectly that will help me do my job.

I need a copywriter urgently, can you help straight away?

Probably not. It depends on my schedule and workload, but usually the wait time on starting a new project is about 2-3 weeks.

I can have a call with you via phone or Skype within a week to get all the information needed about the project. From there I need to go away and think about it while I make room in my schedule for your project. Then the actual research, writing, and revisions begin.

It’s unlikely I’ll be able to complete your project within 2 weeks of an initial enquiry unless we’ve worked together before and I’m familiar with your business.

My project is confidential; what guarantees do I have that you won’t steal my idea or work with my competitors?

I treat my clients’ information and privacy with the utmost respect, and I deal with sensitive business information on a regular basis. However, if you require a more formal assurance of privacy or if you have a project that you want to keep confidential, I am more than happy to sign a non-disclosure (confidentiality) agreement before starting work.

Who owns the copyright to the content you write?

Once the final project fee has been paid you are given copyright of all material I have provided and can do with it what you wish.

Will you ghost write content that I can publish under my own name?

Yes, I do this for a number of clients – mostly for blog articles – and will keep these types of project confidential.

Do you do editing and proof-reading?

Yes. I can review your existing content and make changes at the spelling and grammar level as well as making recommendations from a structural and strategy perspective.
